Disney/Pixar's 3-D animated adventure "Up" managed to top the box office in North America for the second weekend with 44.2 million U.S. dollars, preliminary figures released Sunday showed.

The film targeting family moviegoers is expected to gross an estimated 137.3 million dollars after opening in the number one spot last week, according to movie analysts at Hollywood.com.

Warner Bros.' R-rated comedy "Hangover," which tells about a wild bachelor party in Las Vegas, debuted in a close second spot with an estimated 43.3 million dollars.

"Hangover," with a cast of Hollywood little-knowns, was the first high-profile comedy in a summer season dominated by action blockbusters and had the third best opening ever for an R-rated comedy in the movie industry's history.

The film trounced Will Ferrell comedy "Land of the Lost," another new release from Universal, which became this summer's first box office disappointment with 19.5 million dollars. The big-budget film was well below the 30-million-dollar range that the studio hoped for and in a distant third spot.

Rounding out the top five film this weekend in North America are 20th Century Fox's "Night at The Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian" with 14.7 million dollars and Paramount's sci-fi classic prequel "Star Trek" with 8.4 million dollars. The films have grossed 127.3 million dollars and 222.8 million dollars respectively since their releases.
