The photo exhibition “Beauty of Zhangbei Prairie” has opened on the renowned Wang Fujing Street in Beijing. About 300 selected photographs by 16 Chinese photographers can be seen along the street, showing the untainted beauty of the Zhangbei prairie and its history, culture and people.
The opening ceremony was held on the street Tuesday and featured traditional Mongolian dances and songs. The exhibition runs until July 5.
Zhangbei is a county of 370,000 northwest of Beijing surrounded by prairie, the nearest of which is 220 kilometers from Beijing. At an average altitude of 1,400 meters, Zhangbei enjoys a cool climate year-round, especially in the summer. The county also has a legendary history and abundant historical relics. It was battlefield of many famous wars, including the Huihechuan Battle led by Genghis Khan that laid a solid foundation for the Mongolian Empire. Zhangbei was one of the Yuan Dynasty’s three capitals, too. Moreover, the great walls of more than six dynasties are all located in Zhangbei.
