I am an American citizen and fully agree with the Chinese government's take on this issue. If the obvious comparison of a Chinese spy plane flying in US airspace would be made, perhaps more American's would refuse to swallow the propaganda being brewed by the American media.

A very sad incident indeed. I hope they find the Chinese pilot alive. The US military would like to turn China into the next 'Bogey Man' in order to justify their budget and another Cold War. What a waste of effort that would be. I've been to China and only met friends - not enemies. I want to return some day and learn more and study the language. On the plus side, I think we should all be extremely relieved and proud that President Bush was able to correctly identify China on the big world map on his first try [though there are rumors that he almost pointed to Afghanistan at first.

I am an American, who is asking the world to listen with an open ear to what I have to say. I understand that much of the world hates us because of our politics, PLEASE understand that most of us feel the desire for peace, and think our governments agendas benefit only our government. As average citizens, we see ourselves standing alone as our politicians do things only for their own gain. we vote for the better bad choice, but the pestilence of greed, and power are very compelling, and we only sink deeper. Average citizens from every part of the world must try to work together or we face a reality that will be our destruction. Know THIS, never before has the destructive force of men been so great as it is today, and if we war this time, we WILL destroy each other, and everything around us, only to bemoan starting in the first place. Lets not slip the dogs of war, then cry for the loss that will surely come. WAR is not glorious, or patriotic, nor does it create martyrs, IT IS filthy, painful, and the only things that have ever come from war are millions of bodies of people we love. Territory, nationalism, nothing has ever lasted long, Now we should try peace. The people who suffer are us, not the politicians who create the wars. Thanks for listening.

I am saddened by the incident and the trouble that it may lead to. I do not think that aggression by the US reflects a positive posture towards China or the rest of the world. The US should take the time to consider how we would feel if the situation were reversed. We should also feel some grief for the missing Chinese Pilot and his family. In the end, it is certain that an American Spy plane is in China. It's an unfortunate expression of arrogance for President Bush to assume that we do not have an obligation to apologize to the Chinese people.
But from my heart I want you to know that your American Friend wishes you well and hopes your pilot is found in good health. May we create a world of peace and friendship.

I do not think China is like Iraq that the US can just bully around. This recent incident about this US spy plane downed by China, is a test of American will if we have the guts to confront China militarily in this part of the world. Remember Vietnam. We were kicked out like a wet dog, because we were afraid of China's eventual involvement in the war. What makes the difference now? Like Generals Macarthur and Gavin said," We cannot win a limited war in Asia." Period.

It is very difficult to hear the local news here and not to believe China did the wrong things.
I do read the China Daily news, etc. I know both sides of the story. Not so, to 99.9% of the Americans.
Therefore, China must insisted for the news media as well as the official channels that they must relate and publicize and publish the Chinese side of the story too.
THIS MUST BE DONE IMMMEDIATELY. I MEAN IMMEDIATELY so that not to allow anyone to punch a big black eyes into China unnecessarily.
This type of BLACK EYES is very long lasting

The United States always operates on 'double-standards' to have Colin Powell visiting China at the present time and to have a spy plane flying overhead at the same time goes to show that you cannot trust them. Yes, they should bear full responsibility and say "Yes, we were spying and we are sorry for crashing with one of your planes, and thank you for letting our spy plane land safely on Chinese territory and looking after the crew."

I wonder if the US would allow a Chinese military AWAC plane to fly precariously close to the international border of US without shooting it down..
