Corruption Investigation Stressed

Procuratorates at all levels in Beijing will enhance investigations against corruption cases involving misappropriation of funds, bribery and negligence of duty, Xu Haifeng, procurator-general of Beijing, said Tuesday.

"The fast growth of economy has brought forward many new challenges to us and we need to largely improve our crime investigation methods and techniques," Xu said at a working meeting.

The official stressed that new and high-tech equipment must be introduced into criminal investigations, and a local inter-procuratorate network must be established by the end of this year.

"We should make greater contributions to the city's anti-corruption work," Xu noted.

According to Xu, Beijing procuratorates investigated 386 economic crime cases last year, retrieving some 210 million yuan (US$25 million) in economic loss.
