China Hosts Cultural Festival in Geneva

This year China is the "host-in-honor country" at the 2005 Geneva Festival in Switzerland. Hosted by the Geneva Tourism Office, the 10-day event from August 4-14 has a history spanning 50 years.

Since 1997, the organizers have invited a country as a "host-in-honor" every year.

The State Council Information Office of China, Chinese Embassy in Switzerland and the Geneva Festival organizing committee have jointly prepared an extensive program, such as kungfu displays and dancing performances by ethnic groups.

The head of the Chinese delegation, Li Bing hopes this will be a good chance to showcase China's traditional culture, as well as different cultures in order to build more understanding.

"Thousands years of Chinese history make it unique culture. Such uniqueness means many different perspectives and that's why we think cross-cultural communications are so important."

This year also marks the 55th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Switzerland.
