The Taiwan-based electronic and communication equipment giant Mitac Group unveiled here Tuesday its brandnew mobile phone, which will imminently appear on the mainland market.

The DigiWalker A700 is the group's first mobile phone product in the mainland after acquiring a permit issued by the National Development and Reform Commission this October.

Samuel Wang, general manager of Mitac's mobile communication department, said at the press conference that the mobile phone adopts Microsoft's latest Windows Mobile 5.0 operation system, which is especially designed for the mobile equipment and is equipped with the PXA27x chip made by Intel.

This makes A700 superior in software and hardware, compared with other mobile phones, Wang said.

Mitac also attaches a strong GPS function to this new mobile phone and have already uploaded the maps of the mainland and Hong Kong into the phone.

"In this way, A700 will be a good choice for people who travel among mainland, Taiwan and Hong Kong," the manager said.

Tim Chen, Microsoft vice president and the CEO of the corporation's China region, said he is glad to see Mitac adopting Microsoft's system in its first mobile phone in the mainland.

He said Microsoft will continue furthering its cooperation with the electronic and communications companies in both mainland and Taiwan so as to bring the customers more pleasure from mobile communication.
