Qinghai-Tibet Rail Ready for Cargo Transport
A train leaves the Lhasa Railway Station in Lhasa, capital of southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, Feb. 16, 2006. Cargo transportation will be available as of March on the Qinghai-Tibet Railway -- the highest in the world, an official in charge of the project said on Thursday. The 1,956-km-railway, linking Xining, capital of northwest China's Qinghai Province, and Lhasa across the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, will launch a full-route trial operation on July 1.
