Anting Town, in Shanghai's northwest Jiading District, will be the first town in China to implement an infectious disease prevention system on a trial basis, the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced in Shanghai yesterday.
The CDC has established a tailored disease prevention system for Anting Town, according to which construction plans, including relocating residents, construction and property management, must comply with certain sanitation standards.
The first part of the system, which deals with pest elimination, has been put into practice.
CDC Infectious disease experts have investigated the density of pests in Anting Town, including rats, roaches, mosquitoes and flies in order to control pests in construction projects, said Liu Qiyong, a researcher with CDC.
A pest prevention plan must be included at an early stage of urban construction projects as a measure to prevent infectious diseases.
The disease prevention system also includes underground water management, river improvement, anti-mosquito measures in special areas and rubbish disposal, according to CDC.
