Eleven crewmen are missing after their freighter overturned at about 2:00 am on Sunday off Wenzhou City, east China's Zhejiang Province.
The local maritime safety administration said the Shengxin 658 capsized at 27.17 degrees north and 120.46 degrees east off the coast of Wenzhou, during severe storms and large waves.
Only the captain and a seaman have been rescued so far.
The local maritime rescue center dispatched five salvage ships to the site right after receiving the warning, and 48 fishing boats are also involved in the rescue work.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
