Jiang Zemin Meets Former Russian PM

Chinese President Jiang Zemin met in Beijing Wednesday with former Russian Prime Minister Yevgeny Maksimovich Primakov.

Jiang said that Primakov, an old friend of the Chinese people, has done much for the establishment and development of the Sino-Russian strategic cooperative partnership, and the enhancement of trust and friendship between the two countries and their people.

Jiang voiced his appreciation for Primakov's attention to the

development of bilateral relations.

He noted that the bilateral strategic cooperative partnership

has progressed smoothly in recent years with impressive outcome.

The bilateral good-neighborly treaty of friendship and cooperation, a guiding document for the development of bilateral relations in the 21st century, has injected new impetus into bilateral ties, stressed Jiang.

Primakov said the bilateral strategic cooperative partnership is in the fundamental interests of the people of the two countries and conducive to world peace and stability.

Noting that Russia and China share many common interests and have the conditions for developing their cooperation, Primakov said he will continue to make efforts to further bilateral cooperation in various fields.
