Hollywood action filmmaker and Hong Kong native John Woo has been recognized by the local government for his contributions to the region's movie industry.
John Woo is awarded for his outstanding achievements as a gifted and innovative film director, as well as his contributions to enhancing the profile of Hong Kong films in the international film community.
The critically-acclaimed director, who now lives in Los Angeles, began his film career in 1969 and established his cult reputation with the gangster film, A Better Tomorrow.
The award is being conferred at today's seventh anniversary of Hong Kong's return to Chinese sovereignty.
