Zhang Lu, a famous soccer commentator, has been honored "Ordine della Stella della Solidarieta Italiana", an honor that cherishes foreign citizens who had contributed to cultural exchanges between Italy and other countries.
Zhang Lu, who is also vice president of Beijing Guoan soccer club, became a household name in China for his TV commentary on Italian football league, the Serie A.
He is the first Chinese sportsman to receive such a great honor.
Zhang Lu says he is greatly honored and believes the award is granted not only to himself, but to the millions of fans who love Italian football.
Serie A matches had been in the past 15 years among the top TV shows in China, attracting tens of millions of fans.
Over 40 outstanding social dignities from across the world received the honor this year.
