Jay Chow Wins Big in Channel V Chinese Music Awards 2006

Channel V Chinese Music Awards 2006 were held Wednesday at Queen Elizabeth Stadium in Hong Kong. Jay Chow, the Taiwanese singing king, was the biggest winner.

Jay Chow has been the hottest pop singer for several years running. Although he had already received a number of awards in the past, this time he swept up all the major prizes for Taiwan and Hong Kong singers. Not only was he named "Most Popular Male Artist", "Best Artist" and "Best Singer-Songwriter", his work also garnered the honors for "Most Popular Music Video" and "Song of the Year". It is a peak moment in this heartthrob's career.

"Super Girls" became another focus on the ceremony. Zhou Bichang, who was named runner-up in the "Super Girls" television competition, won a "Wireless Voted Most Popular Song" award for her song "Note". The third Super Girl, Zhang Liangying, became the "Wireless Voted Most Popular Singer".

As for mainland male singers, the "Most Popular Male Artist" award and "Best Artist" award were given respectively to He Jiong and Xu Wei. The latter has been widely recognized as a strong talent in singing and producing songs. He Jiong is also known for his role as part of the jury of this past year's "Super Girls".

For the female awards in the Taiwan and Hong Kong categories, hot singer Jolin, whose albums were always best sellers, received the "Most Popular Female Artist" award. "Best Singer" went to Leong Chui Peng. Her performance last year may not have been as good as 2004, but the Chinese Music Charts still granted the award to her as a show of encouragement.

Zhao Wei , known for both her singing and acting, won the mainland's "Most Popular Female Artist" award. After issuing two albums, her singing career has made big progress. Wang Rong was named "Best Singer".

The newcomers to the music scene were not left out. Alan Kuo, son of passed away star Kor Sau Leung, took home the "Best Newcomer" award, while Rainie was named "Most Popular Newcomer". Jin Sha and Chen Hao were named, respectively, "Best Newcomer" and "Most Popular Newcomer" from the mainland.

Pop duo Twins were the only Hong Kong singers to receive a prize in the ceremony. They won the "Best Band" award together with the group Yu Quan and the band Flowers.
