Villagers Grab Cultural Property

A newly excavated ancient tomb from the Song Dynasty has been looted by local villagers in northwest China's Shaanxi Province.

Witnesses say over 30 young men barged into the tomb chamber last Tuesday, smashed the roof, and took away all the burial accessories including porcelain bowls, jars and frescos.

Local police say investigations are now underway.

The tomb was discovered in Baozi, Danfeng County weeks ago by a villager while laying the foundations for his new house.
