German Culture Week, the first festival of its kind in Shanghai, will be held from May 1 to 14.
The event, under the personal patronage of German Chancellor Gerhard Schroder, aims to present the variety and richness of the German culture to Chinese audience.
Some famous German orchestras together with more than two hundred musicians will perform six concerts. Eichhofner Dorfmusik, the Bavarian Brass Band, will present the traditional German music.
The event will begin with NDR Big Band's performance in Shanghai Concert Hall, and conclude after showing film Metropolis in Shanghai Grand Theater.
Andreas Schiekofer, Germany consulate general of Cultural and Education Section to Shanghai, said the German Culture Week should help Chinese people to understand profound German culture on music, movie, architecture and photography.
The exhibition will present models and pictures of KSP Engel and Zimmermann's architectures that combined Chinese with German style.
An outdoor exhibition will also be held on the squares of the Shanghai Grand Theater and Shanghai Concert Hall as an additional program for the event to make a comprehensive presentation of German culture to Chinese people.
Many German institutions and enterprises engaged in education, cultural exchange, tourism and food production will show audience the colorful aspects of German life.
The event is conducted on behalf of the Shanghai municipal government and Shanghai Grand Theater in cooperation with the intercultural business consultancy Sinalingua.
