China's Oldest Diploma on Display

China's oldest surviving university diploma , issued by Fudan University, is on show at the school's museum.

Issued in 1909, the certificate contains a comment by the Empress Dowager Cixi. She asked the graduate to study hard so as to contribute to the country.

The recipient of the diploma, Zhang Yi, passed away more than 60 years ago. His grand children found the certificate and donated it to his alma mater as a souvenir.
