China's digest periodical Reader has seen its circulation exceeding 10 million in April, and the semimonthly remains to be the country's most read magazine.
"We are optimistic of expanding circulation as Reader still has great potential in a vast number of small cities and schools in China as well as in the overseas market," said Peng Changchen, editor-in-chief of the magazine.
First published in 1981, Reader has ranked among the top ten in circulation among Chinese magazines for 13 consecutive years. The periodical entered the North American market in the United States and Canada in 2004.
Reader ranked the fourth among magazines worldwide in terms of circulation in 2004, only after Reader's Digest, National Geographic, and Time, all published in the United States, according to the International Federation of the Periodical Press.
Prestigious in China for its high quality and heart-warming humanistic style, Reader is a digest periodical with highly-readable articles previously published or original, contributed by millions of its readers.
The magazine was originally named Duzhe Wenzhai (Reader's Digest), which resulted in a copyright dispute with the American magazine Reader's Digest. In 1993, the Chinese digest magazine changed its original name to Reader, ending the year-long legal dispute.
