Last night in Beijing, the sixth Pepsi Music Chart Awards has held a ceremony gala to honor those outstanding singers and musicians for their contributions to Chinese music industry in the last year.
Super Girl runner-up Zhou Bichang got a surprising Most Popular Mainland Female Singer Award at the Pepsi Music Chart Awards last night. This makes her the youngest yet of "most popular" award winners in one of China's most authoritative music award ceremonies.
In the "Best Singer" categories, Wang Feng and Han Hong grabbed the mainland male and female awards, while Jay Chow and Stefanie Sun were awarded Best Singer in Hong Kong and Taiwan, respectively.
Several rock & roll awards were given out this year to encourage the development of rock music in the mainland, with veteran Cui Jian undisputedly earning the award for Best Rock Singer.
But it was South Korean singer Jang Woo Hyuck's dance performance that aroused the loudest and most enthusiastic reactions from fans. Iron railings were even broken apart by pushing throngs of onlookers when this former H.O.T. member entered the award venue.
