Kuwaiti firefighters on Monday put out the fire in the first Iraqi oil well in Ar Rumaila, south Iraq, the Kuwaiti news agency reported.
The fire in Well 491 has been extinguished by the Kuwaiti team which is keen to preserve the Iraqi people's property, said Isa Bouyabis, head of a Kuwaiti special team.
The team had cooled off the site "A 1" before taking control of the well's burning gusher, the team leader said.
More than a dozen wells were set ablaze in the ongoing US-led war on Iraq, which was reported to use the heavy smoke from the fires to blind the coalition warplanes.
