Russian President Vladimir Putin warned his US counterpart George W. Bush by telephone Monday to avoid a humanitarian catastrophe in Iraq, the Kremlin press service said.
"While discussing the Iraq crisis, Putin confirmed Russia's stated position on Iraq settlement and said that a humanitarian catastrophe must be prevented in the region," the service said.
