Discussion of the ongoing Iraq war will be on the agenda of the coming meeting between the representatives of the Rio Group and the European Union (EU), Peruvian Foreign Minister Allan Wagner Tizon said on Monday.
The meeting, on Thursday and Friday in Athens, will "present an opportunity" to begin dealing with the United States-led military strikes on Iraq, he said.
The minister complained of the "inefficiency" of the United Nations Security Council, saying it had failed to make Iraq disarm in a peaceful way.
He repeated that Iraq must disarm in accordance with relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council and international laws.
The minister stressed that Peru does not support the US-led military action, which entered its 6th day on Monday in Iraq.
The 19-member Rio Group was launched in December 1986 as Latin America's largest political coordinating group to represent the region in negotiations with other blocs or groups in the world.
