The United States and the European Union (EU) on Wednesday reached consensus on the need for funds to prevent a humanitarian disaster in Iraq.
The consensus came after talks between EU representative and US officials.
Sources close to the talks said the United States and the EU agreed on the need to release millions of dollars held in UN-controlled accounts under Iraq's "oil-for-food" program, which has been suspended with the outbreak of the Iraq war.
But there is disagreement on how the money should be freed up.
A US official said after the talks" The two sides agreed the need to respond to the UN urgent appeal for humanitarian funding."
