Dozens of corpses, including those of women and children, were found south of Baghdad after an alleged US-led air raid early Tuesday, a spokesman for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said Wednesday.
Florian Westphal, spokesman for the International Committee of the Red Cross, said that an ICRC team saw vehicles arriving at a hospital transporting dozens of dead bodies of men, women and children.
These deaths, together with the injury of more than 300 people, were incurred by US air strike Tuesday when US Apache helicopters targeted Hillah, a farming town south of Baghdad, Iraqi officials claimed.
The dead bodies and the nature of the injuries would suggest that at least some of them are the result of bombing, according to Westphal.
Now, the wounded were being treated in a hospital in Hillah with the help of the ICRC team which happened to be in this area.
The US Central Command in Qatar said it was investigating the case.
