A total of 877 US planes flew over Bulgarian territory after the US-led war in Iraq began on March 20,the Bulgarian newspaper "24 Hours" reported on Tuesday.
A total of 183 air-refueling planes took off from Bulgaria's Sarafovo airbase on the Black Sea coast, said the report, citing a press release by the Bulgarian government information center.
On Feb. 7, at a request from the United State, Bulgaria's parliament approved a government motion to offer the United States an air corridor, and to allow the use of the Sarafovo airport by 18 US aircraft, and the deployment of 400 US ground troops in the east European country.
The Sarafovo airbase, near the Black Sea town of Bourgas, was used by US troops in late 2001 during the war in Afghanistan.
Bulgaria, a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, is a strong supporter of the US-led military action against Iraq.
