Russia's ambassador to Mexico, Konstantin Mozel, on Thursday rejected suggestions that the United Nations Security Council had lost its function following the unilateral military action by Washington against Iraq.
He said this was only a crisis like the ones in Korea, Vietnam and Afghanistan, and the institution remained active.
Mozel also denied there exists a risk of estrangement between the United States and the UN Security Council, and called for an approach between the two parties.
Commenting on the Mexican pro tempore presidency of the Councilin April, the diplomat pointed out that its role amid war would not be an easy one, but he looked forward to necessary cohesion inside the world organization.
