Sporadic attacks injured at least four US soldiers Sunday south of the fallen Iraqi capital city of Baghdad, Reuters reported.
US troops were attacked by sniper fire and rocket-propelled grenades while clearing an Iraqi arms dump, senior US officers were quoted as saying.
The soldiers of the 101st Airborne Division were injured while clearing rockets and mortar rounds at Mahmudiya, 40 km south of central Baghdad.
The assailants seemed to fire from a nearby building or through a crowd, the report said.
"There was an explosion and then they came under direct fire," the US officers said, adding they "had four soldiers hit."
The injured soldiers have been taken to a field hospital, said the report without mentioning their condition.
