More than 60 medical experts from the Chinese mainland, Taiwan Province, and Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions attended a symposium on the prevention and control of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) on Wednesday.
During the symposium, which was jointly organized by the Chinese Medical Association, the Chinese Preventive Medical Association and the Chinese Association for Hospital Administration, the experts briefed the participants on the current situation of SARS in China and conducted in-depth discussions on the diagnosis and treatment of the disease.
The World Health Organization (WHO) China Representative Henk Bekedam reported on the global status of SARS and introduced measures on how to tackle this serious epidemic.
The experts agreed that the control of the spread of SARS has become a global concern and that medical services on both sides of the Taiwan Straits should establish a cooperative mechanism to fight the disease.
The symposium, which was attended by six Taiwanese experts, also received several academic papers from Taiwan.
