The Press Office under the Ministry of Health published Thursday afternoon a press release on the latest SARS situation on the Chinese mainland. All provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities on the mainland reported a total of 125 new SARS cases with 23 patients recovered and 4 deaths.

Of these figures:

Guangdong reported 15 new cases, 13 patient recovered

Beijing reported 89 new cases, 9 patients recovered and 4 deaths

Shanxi reported 5 new cases, 1 recovered

Inner Mongolia reported 11 new cases

Guangxi 1 new case

Henan 2 new cases

Tianjin 1 new case

Anhui 1 case

By 8 pm of April 23, China had a total of 2,422 SARS cases (including 541 medical workers), which included 1,254 patients who had recovered and been discharged from hospital and 110 deaths.

Among these figures, a total of 1,359 cases (involving 341 medical workers), including 1,159 recovered and 49 deaths, were reported in Guangdong.

A total of 774 cases (involving 143 medical workers), including 64 recovered and 39 deaths, were reported in Beijing. Beijing also reported 8 patients who had been falsely diagnosed with SARS.

162 cases (involving 45 medical workers), including 14 recovered and 7 deaths, were reported in Shanxi

47 cases (involving 6 medical workers), including 6 deaths, were reported in Inner Mongolia

16 cases including 8 recovered and 3 deaths were reported in Guangxi.

8 cases including 3 recovered and 2 deaths were reported in Sichuan.

7 cases including 2 medical workers were reported in Jilin.

8 cases including 1 medical worker were reported in Henan.

6 cases including 5 recovered and 1 death were reported in Hunan.

5 cases including 1 death were reported in Ningxia.

8 cases (involving 1 medical worker) including 2 deaths were reported in Tianjin.

3 cases including 1 recovered were reported in Fujian.

Zhejiang reported 3 cases, Shanghai 2, Gansu 2, Shaanxi 2, Liaoning 1, Shandong 1, Hubei 1 (medical worker), Hebei 6 (including 1 medical worker), and Anhui 1.

In addition, a total of 243 suspected cases were reported from across the mainland Thursday. By 8 pm of April 23, the total number of suspected cases nationwide was 1,278, including 102 from Guangdong, 863 from Beijing, 108 from Shanxi, 101 from Inner Mongolia, 2 from Guangxi, 14 from Sichuan, 8 from Jilin, 3 from Henan, 1 from Hunan, 2 from Ningxia, 12 from Tianjin, 2 from Zhejiang, 16 from Shanghai, 2 from Gansu, 16 from Shaanxi, 10 from Hubei, 11 from Hebei, 1 from Xinjiang, 1 from Chongqing, 2 from Jiangsu, and 1 from Jiangxi. The suspected case in Guizhou has proved to be a false alarm.
