Hong Kong kungfu star Jackie Chan Sunday donated nearly US$1,000 of books and clothes to students of a primary school at northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
As a UNICEF and UNAIDS Goodwill Ambassador, Jackie donated to build a primary school named "Heart of Dragon" for poor students in the Awat County of Aksu Prefecture in southern Xinjiang in early April this year.
Jackie also brought clothes for the students for winter at Sunday's ceremony for the completion of the school.
"We all very much thankful to Jackie Chan, because his donation enabled us to sit in wide and bright classrooms for reading and study," said Muhammad, a Uygur student at the school.
After the ceremony, Jackie went to classrooms to hand out stationery for the students one by one and told them to study hard so as to do better for the country.
"It made me much happier than winning of the the Best Leading Actor Award of Golden Rooster film awards yesterday to see the completion of the school with my donation," he said.
A total of 26 people from 36 local organizations or businesses have made donations to the school of "Heart of Dragon" in response to Jackie's call.
