Before the 25th Hong Kong Film Awards (HKFA), to be held in Hong Kong on April 8, pop star Andy Lau talked about the nominees for the Best Actress Award in a recent interview and chose Karen Mok as the potential winner. He had invited Mok to star in the movie, Wait Til You're Older.
The nominees for Best Actress Award are Zhou Xun for Perhaps Love, Sylvia Chang for Rice Rhapsody, Karena Lam for Home Sweet Home, Sammi Cheng for Everlasting Regret and Karen Mok.
Lau's statement outraged many Sammi Cheng's fans. They are worried that he may influence the second round of voting. The chairman of HKFA, Manfred Wong, revealed that Lau is not one of the 50 professional judges in the second round of voting because of his nomination in the Best Actor category. He was only entitled to a vote during the first round through the Hong Kong Artists Association and will have little effect on the final result.
