China to Survey Forestalled Construction Land

China will survey the forestalled construction land in urban areas from December 10 to March 31, 2005, according to the Ministry of Land and Resources in Beijing Tuesday.

Four main aspects to be surveyed are: planed construction land, unused land that has been approved, vacant land and unavailable land that has been approved.

The ministry said it wants to "know the basic situation of construction land clearly." The ministry will analyze the potential of land usage and then issue policies to encourage people to reuse that kind of land.

According to the investigation, municipal and county departments of land and resources, after investing in their own areas, should write reports and fill their statistics in a table of the website of the ministry.

Provincial departments of land and resources then should collect the data from municipal and county departments and write reports on the whole situation of the region.

The ministry urged the reports should reflect the "true situation" of these four kinds of land and give suggestions to how to reuse them.

The ministry said the survey will be carried out in the whole country while parts of key municipalities and counties will be selected for further focus.
