Nominations for the election of deputies of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) to the 10th National People's Congress (NPC) of China will be accepted between Nov. 5 and 19.
The maximum number of nominees can exceed the quota of deputies by 50 percent. Should nominees turn out to be more than that, a preliminary round of election will be held on Dec. 5 to meet the requirement, and the final and official round of election will be held on Dec. 7.
Such details are contained in a public services announcement issued by the Presidium of the Conference for Electing Deputies of the Macao SAR to the 10th NPC of China after it convened Saturday. The presidium is headed by Edmund Ho Hau Wah.
The announcement also set forth qualifications for a candidate. A person who wants to contest need to be at least 18 years old and be a Chinese citizen. He or she must also have obtained at least 10 nominations for his or her election registration to be effective.
Macao will have 12 deputies to the 10th NPC.
