Preparing for the 2008 Beijing Olympics will enhance Beijing's cooperation with the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Beijing Mayor Meng Xuenong said in Beijing Tuesday.
Meng made the remarks while meeting with Tsang Hin Chi, Chairman of the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce of Hong Kong (CGCC).
"The majority of the investment entering Beijing comes from Hong Kong, and Beijing will learn from the international metropolis' development experience in areas like financing," Meng said.
He expressed the hope that the CGCC, which convenes Hong Kong’s elite businessmen, will help promote cooperation between the two cities.
Following Beijing's pledge to hold a successful Olympic Games, business opportunities emerged in areas including infrastructure, consultation and services, which will further promote cooperation between Beijing and Hong Kong, Meng said.
The 103-year-old CGCC has always been a bridge between Beijing and Hong Kong, and it will continue to work towards this cause, Tsang said.
