British security services believe they have thwarted Sept. 11-style attacks on targets including London's Heathrow Airport and financial center Canary Wharf, Britain's independent ITV News network reported on Monday.
"The plot is said to have involved pilots being trained to fly into target buildings including London's Canary Wharf and Heathrow Airport," ITV News said on its website.
"It is one of four or five al-Qaeda planned attacks, since 9/11 (the September 11, 2001 attacks in the United States), that have come to nothing, after the authorities intervened," the report said.
The disclosure comes as the British government prepares to unveil a series of tough new law-and-order bills in Tuesday's Queen's speech, setting out the legislative program for what is expected to be the final session of the current parliament. The next general election in the country is widely expected to be held in May next year.
