Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma said on Monday that he supported the holding of another round of presidential elections, Interfax reported on Monday evening.
Kuchma told a meeting in the suburb of Kiev, which was attended by Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovich and senior leaders from eastern Ukrainian Provinces.
According to Ukrainian laws, only the Central Elections Commission (CEC) has the power to decide on whether to re-organize elections or not.
However, the Ukraine national congress passed last Saturday a non-binding no-confidence resolution against the commission, a move angered CEC chairman Sergey Kivalov, who demanded evidences for mistakes his commission had committed.
Opposition leader Viktor Yushchenko had demanded another round of presidential elections be held on Dec. 12.
