UK: Terrorists in Final Preparations for Attacks in Saudi Arabia

British government said Monday terrorists are in the "final stages" of planning attacks in Saudi Arabia, urging nonessential staff and dependants at British embassy the kingdom to leave if they wish.

"There are credible reports that terrorists are in the final stages of planning attacks," said the Foreign Office in its latest advice to travellers to Saudi Arabia, which was issued on its Internet site.

"We continue to believe that terrorists are planning further attacks, including against Westerners and places associated with Westerners in Saudi Arabia," the advice said.

"If you choose to travel to, or remain in, Saudi Arabia, you should maintain vigilance, particularly in public places. We strongly recommend that you obtain comprehensive travel and medical insurance before travelling," it said.

The advice said the UK government has allowed nonessential staff and dependents at its missions in Saudi Arabia to leave if they wish.

The warning from the UK government came a day after the US embassy to Saudi Arabia closed its premises and two consulates in Saudi Arabia on Monday and Tuesday because of a threat against US government buildings there.

Australia has also warned its citizens not to travel to Saudi Arabia and urged Australians there to leave or exercise extreme vigilance. "We have received credible reports that terrorists are planning attacks," Australia's Department of foreign Affairs and Trade said on its website.

However, the Saudi authorities on Sunday said they have no information of an imminent terrorist attacks in the kingdom, adding the country is doing everything in its power to crack down on individuals and organizations linked to terrorism.
