Vice President Calls for Enhancing Economic Ties with Indonesia

Vice President Zeng Qinghong suggested strengthening economic ties with Indonesia, including increasing two-way investment and implementing arranged large projects.

Zeng told visiting Indonesian vice president, Yusuf Kalla, that China and Indonesia have complementary economies.

"We two countries have witnessed fruitful cooperation in sectors such as infrastructure construction, exploring energy and natural resources, agriculture and fishery," Zeng told Yusuf, who is in Beijing for an "Indonesian Cultural Night."

Zeng said China will continuously support and participate in the reconstruction of Indonesia's tsunami-hit region.

Yusuf appreciated China's aid to those affected areas and supports Indonesia's national independence and sovereignty.

He also said Indonesia will stick to the one-China policy.

"To promote Sino-Indonesian cooperation accords with our fundamental interest as important developing countries," Zeng said, adding that it "will also benefit regional and world peace and development."

Indonesia will promote exchange and cooperation between the two countries' business people and facilitate cooperation in the tourism, agriculture and fishery sectors, said Yusuf.

Zeng also stressed that China will further cooperate with Indonesia in a bid to push forward relations between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and speed up the building of a China-ASEAN free trade area.
