Chinese Defense Minister Cao Gangchuan said in Beijing Thursday that China is willing to work with Uganda to promote friendly cooperation between their armies.
General Cao, also vice-chairman of the Chinese Central Military Commission and a state councilor, made the remarks during his talks with Ugandan Minister of Defense Amama Mbabazi, who arrived here Sunday for a seven-day visit.
The friendly relations between China and Uganda have been progressing steadily and healthily over the past 40-plus years, Cao noted.
China appreciates and thanked Uganda's adherence to the "one China" policy and Uganda's powerful support in human rights and other key international issues, said Cao.
Mbabazi said the Ugandan government and people are grateful to China for its genuine support of Uganda's national construction.
The Ugandan army attaches importance to its friendly relations with the Chinese army and wishes to further improve the exchanges and cooperation between the two armies. (Xinhua News Agency September 5, 2003)
