Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, one of Asia Pacific's leading luxury hotel groups, will build a new hotel in Shenzhen to be opened in 2007.
Construction work started Friday near the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center in Futian District, the city's new central business district.
Designed by a Hong Kong-based company, the 200-meter-high hotel will have 596 guest rooms and 51 serviced apartments, with a minimum room size of 48 square meters.
Hotel guests will be provided with a full range of amenities including state-of-the-art broadband and wireless Internet services.
"Our new hotel will cater for the increasing demand for luxury hotels," said Giovanni Angelini, Shangri-La's chief executive officer and managing director.
The new hotel, Shangri-La Futian, is one of 25 new hotels the group will open through 2007, to complement its existing portfolio of 17 hotels on the Chinese mainland, including the 553-room Shangri-La Hotel in Shenzhen. (Shenzhen Daily November 23, 2004)
