Hernan Cattaneo and Christopher Lawrence, the world's No. 6 and No. 7 DJs as voted by DJ Magazine last year, will be making their own special contribution to the massive celebrations surrounding the upcoming Chinese New Year in Shanghai.
Lawrence will be at the Rojam Disco next Tuesday -- Chinese New Year's Eve -- and Cattaneo will preside at the same venue on Thursday.
"I can hardly wait," says Michelle Shen, 22, a local university student. "Although the parties might collide with some family gatherings during the Spring Festival, I will definitely come as it is such an innovative and interesting way to celebrate the traditional festival. I believe the two DJs will bring people and heat -- two things that make me crazy." With more than 10 years performing in the best clubs of Argentina, Cattaneo is one of the most respected DJs in South America. His influences come from the 1980s Chicago house and from a more progressive 1990s European sound.
As early as 1996, while in residence at "Clubland," a Saturday night gathering hailed to be Argentina's best, he grabbed the opportunity to share the booth with some of the world's elite DJs such as Sasha, John Digweed, Carl Cox and, of course, Paul Oakenfold, who later invited Cattaneo to join his European tour.
It was from this point that Cattaneo's sounds started to be widely known throughout Europe, which in turn, led to his signing with "Perfectom," a world-renowned label, for both "Deep Funk" and "South America," the first original production and mix compilation.
Recent years have seen him mature as he continued to tour the world, attending most of the big cultural festivals. The latest Renaissance Masters Series that has hit the shelves worldwide has launched him on the biggest tour of his career. Shanghai is the latest stop for his Renaissance Masters Tour in Asia and comes just before the official release on Valentine's Day of the Renaissance Masters Series second volume. Lawrence has been dubbed "Superstar DJ" and "America's Top Trance DJ," and he is one of the biggest, most respected and popular names in dance music in the world today.
His musical talents, production skills, coupled with his tough progressive and sleek techno trance, make him in demand around the world. Described as an "All Round International Jet-setting Superstar,"Lawrence clocks up over 250,000 frequent flyer miles a year and a list of countless international tours, events and clubs throughout Europe, Asia, South America and Australia. Released last summer, his first full-length album of original music "All or Nothing" featuring 12 tracks, won him critical acclaim. The Washington Post has described it as "dynamic and forceful."
Shanghai will be the first stop on his China tour before he moves on to Chengdu in Sichuan Province and Shenzhen in Guangdong Province.
