HK Sets HK$500 Million for Tourism Promotion

Selina Chow has been reappointed Hong Kong Tourism Board chief for a two-year term starting from April 1.

Members Robert Chow and Paul Chiu have also been reappointed.

Hong Kong Secretary for Economic Development and Labor Stephen Ip said that 2005 and 2006 will be key milestones in the development of Hong Kong's tourism industry with the completion of a number of major infrastructure projects.

He said it is important that experienced members with dedication and insight continue to lead the board, adding that he looks forward to working closely with them in enhancing Hong Kong's position as Asia's premier tourism destination.

Hong Kong's 2005-2006 Financial Budget set aside 500 million HK dollars (US$64.1 million) for tourism promotion.

Hong Kong Tourism Board expected that 27 million tourists would pay visits to Hong Kong next year after the opening of Hong Kong Disney Land on Sept. 12.
