Beijing to Announce Plan for Residents' Taiwan Tour

The Chinese mainland is set later today to announce plans to allow its residents to visit Taiwan as tourists.

The move is among the goodwill gestures promised by Beijing earlier this month, when Kuomintang Chairman Lien Chan paid an historic visit to the mainland.

Meanwhile, more tropical fruit from Taiwan have arrived in mainland cities.

Also during Lien Chan's visit, the mainland pledged to allow entry to 6 more fruit types from Taiwan, bringing the total to 18. It also pledged to offer zero tariffs on at least 10 kinds of fruit.

Last year, the Chinese mainland became the fourth largest export market for Taiwan's farm produce, which includes tropical fruit.
