Beijing Residents Eye Taiwan Trips

Since the National Tourism Administration announced it would allow sightseeing tours from the mainland into Taiwan, local travel agencies have received hundreds of calls from Beijing residents requesting details on the new package tour.

People say their favorite scenic spots are Alishan Mountain and Sun Moon Lake, which have become popular from Taiwan folk songs.

Some people, especially Teresa Tang's fans, also hope to have an opportunity to visit the late singer's grave to pay tribute.

The agencies say the price for a 10-day package tour will be around 10,000 yuan, or about 1200 US dollars.

Tourists have to fly to Hong Kong and then take another plane to Taiwan. The whole process takes nearly 8 hours. Round-trip tickets cost about 6000 yuan, or 726 US dollars.
