China has launched its largest tourism promotion so far in the United States. Over 200 posters of China's natural scenery have appeared in the Grand Central Terminal of Manhattan, New York, as a part of China's largest tourism promotion in the US.
This tourism promotion, organized by the New York Office of the Chinese Tourism Administration, carries the slogan "Welcome to China -- 2008 Beijing."
It also includes huge outdoor advertisements in Manhattan and a 16-page travel brochure to be attached to each copy of some mainstream American newspapers such as USA Today, New York Times, and Los Angeles Times. A special related advertisement will remain in the USA Today for 20 weeks.
More than 100 million tourists have traveled in China in 2004, including 1.3 million from the US. As the host of the 2008 Olympics and the 2010 World's Fair, China will receive more foreign travelers in the future, said Zhu Shanzhong, director of the NY Office of the Chinese Tourism Administration.
China has currently signed tourist contacts with 65 countries and is expected by the World Tourism Organization to become the most popular tourist destination by 2020.
