The Italian consulate opened its new Visa Application Center yesterday at 555 Xujiahui Road, Shanghai, a coastal metropolis in east China.

Consulate officials said the new center will reduce the time it takes to process a visa application. The consulate handles applications from the city as well as the provinces of Anhui, Jiangsu and Zhejiang.
