Guizhou: Japanese Account for Top Foreign Visitors

Heavy advertising has made Guizhou Province a well known and attractive travel destination, especially in Asia. The Japanese have become the largest flock of foreign tourists visiting Guizhou province.

In 2002, the "Guizhou Tourism Forum" was held in Japan to celebrate the 30th of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Japan, appealing to both Japanese media and its national tourism industry. Since then, visitors heading to Guizhou from Japan have increased steadily. According to statistics from the Guizhou Provincial Tourism Bureau, an average of more than 13,000 visitors come from Japan each year.

In October, 2005, a mission group from the Guizhou Provincial Tourism Bureau held a series of tourism promotion activities in Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya. An agreement focusing on the cooperation between the Guizhou Provincial Tourism Bureau and the Japanese Tourism Business Committee has been signed to achieve a win-win situation between Guizhou and Japan tourism.
