A U.S. passenger flight on its way from Minneapolis, Minnesota, to London was canceled on Sunday after it made an emergency landing over a smoke alert in the cabin.
Northwest Airlines Flight 44, with 255 passengers and 10 crew members on board, landed without incident just before 9:50 p.m. on Saturday (0250 GMT on Sunday) at Duluth International Airport.
No injuries were reported among the passengers, who waited aboard until about 7:30 a.m. (1230 GMT) on Sunday when they were told that the trip was canceled.
Doug Wood, Northwest's manager in Duluth, a city of northeast Minnesota, said the smoke appears to be caused by an electrical fault, which was later fixed by mechanics.
The flight was canceled as the flight crew was running out of its allowed time, he added, saying his company was rebooking the passengers on another plane to London.
