Chinese veteran Gao Hongmiao set a new University Games record as she clocked 43 minutes 20 seconds to win the women's 10km walk at the 21st Universiade here on Wednesday.
The 27-year-old Gao, winner of the 1995 World Cup, beat the previous best of 44 minutes and one second, which was set by Larissa Ramazanova in the 1997 Universiade in Sicily, Italy.
This is the first new track and field Games record produced at the ongoing 21st Universiade.
Susana Feitor of Portugal also broke the record with 43:40 to win the silver.
Sydney Olympic Champion Wang Liping equalled the previous record in 44:01.
