"Chinese people have an organizing committee to put on a very, very professional and well-organized Universiade," said George Killian, President of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) here this morning at a press conference.
"You did a good job," Killian said with satisfaction at the press conference held in the Main Press Center of the Universiade, referring to what Beijing has done for the 21st Summer Games of the Universiade which is scheduled to close tomorrow. "Everything you have done has been positive."
The Athletes' Village, which was built specially for this Universiade, has been acclaimed by athletes and officials from various countries and regions, said FISU Secretary General Roch Campana at the press conference, adding he goes to the Village everyday.
"We have no questions but only compliments for the Universiade," Campana said.
Killian spoke highly of the more than 15,000 volunteers offering various services at the Universiade, describing them as "very kind and hospitable."
"One thing I found out about the Chinese in all my visits is that you are very, very proud of your country," he said. "As a group of young people, you are very nationalistic. That's a good sign."
The FISU President pointed out that "it's easy to be negative, but to the people who put on in this Universiade 2001, from very high level government officials down to the volunteers" who have to deal with people throughout the world, it is something "wonderful" and "unbelievable."
