Adjust font size:

Discovery Channel is seeking young Chinese for its First-time Filmmakers project.

The new theme is "Portraits of China" -- ordinary but extraordinary people who have made major contributions to modern China.

Senior citizens learning English in Beijing to help Olympics tourists and a young man building "monster" cars are among the winning documentaries of the Discovery Channel's First-time Filmmakers project in China.

It was one of the six top documentaries chosen and funded by Discovery in the project - and aired as a series.

This year's proposals are due November 20.

The First-time Filmmakers program was initiated by the Discovery Channel in China in 2002. Winners receive financing and are premiered as a series, "China 21" on Discovery Channel in the Asia Pacific region and 26 leading cable TV stations in China, reaching over 114 million households.
